Jean Elsen sale 149, lot 1194
Hannover in 1648. It lies on the Leine, south of Celle

This specimen was lot 1194 in Jean Elsen sale 149 (Brussels, December 2021), where it sold for €180 (about US$244 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ALLEMAGNE, HANOVRE, Ville, AR 12 Mariengroschen, 1672. D/ Porte fortifiée aux armes de la ville, sous un lion à g. R/ Valeur dans le champ. Très Beau à Superbe. (Germany, city of Hannover, silver twelve mariengroschen of 1672. Obverse: fortified gate with the arms of the town, below, a lion facing left; reverse: value. Very Fine - Extremely Fine.)"

This type was struck by the city 1669-74. It later became the capital of Brunswick-Luneburg. Twelve mariengroschen = one-third thaler altho this example is a little light.
