This specimen was lot 56487 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $120. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Hanau-Munzenberg. 1/2 Taler, 1769-IIE. Wilhelm IX. NGC VF-30." This type was struck 1769-70 to promote the mines of Bieberer. The native dynasty fell extinct in 1736 and the state was ruled by the landgraves of Hesse-Cassel until 1803. The other part, Hanau-Lichtenberg, passed to Hesse-Darmstadt. The Bieberer Berg is still in Hesse, but is now the site of a soccer stadium.
