Künker sale 386, lot 6227

This specimen was lot 6227 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"REICHSSILBERMÜNZEN, HAMBURG. Freie und Hansestadt. 5 Mark 1894. In US-Plastikholder der PCGS mit der Bewertung MS 65 (42446462). Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Prachtexemplar. Fast Stempelglanz. (free city of Hamburg, five mark of 1894. Outstanding example, about uncirculated, graded PCGS MS-65.)"

This type was struck 1891-1908 and 1913. This type is readily available in worn condition but expensive in high grade. The Hamburg mint is still in operation, striking coins for the Federal Republic of Germany.

Recorded mintage: 82,000, a slightly better date.

Specification: 27.77 g, 0.900 fine silver, 38 mm diameter, lettered edge.
