Hamburg 1874-B 10 mark
This specimen was lot 6462 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €8,500 (about US$11,830 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"REICHSGOLDMÜNZEN, HAMBURG, Freie und Hansestadt. 10 Mark 1874. R Prachtexemplar. Fast Stempelglanz. (Germany, free city of Hamburg, ten mark of 1874, choice example, about uncirculated.)"
This one year type is fairly rare. The "B" mintmark appeared on Prussian issues of 1866-78 to stand for the Hannover mint. We don't know if that was the case here. The "J" mintmark was adopted for Hamburg in 1875 and is still in use for the Federal Republic.
Recorded mintage: 50,000.
Specification: 3.98 g, 0.900 fine gold, .115 troy oz AGW.
