This specimen was lot 29491 in Heritage sale 3037 (New York, January 2015), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Hall in Swabia. Free City Taler 1742-GFN MS63 NGC. Featuring the bust of Charles VII, this is a remarkable example with bold relief and steel-gray patina canvassing otherwise prooflike fields. A striking one-year type, fully original and with instant appeal." The city of Hall in Swabia was a large issuer of coins in the Middle Ages but by the eighteenth century its issues are few and scarce. This issue is divided between mintmaster GFN (shown here) and mintmaster PGN (Dav-2278).
