Guyana 1979 cent
This specimen was lot 73498 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $90. The catalog description[1] noted, "GUYANA. Cent, 1979. Llantrisant Mint. PCGS SPECIMEN-67 Gold Shield. Undoubtedly one of the finest and most alluring for the date, this resounding Gem radiates with seemingly endless appeal and is incredibly vibrant. Ex: Kings Norton Mint Collection." Guyana began its numismatic life as the Dutch-held colony of Essequibo & Demerary, which later became British Guiana. Independence was obtained in 1966. Guyana gravitates toward relations with English-speaking Caribbean island nations such as Trinidad and Tobago rather than with other South American nations. This type was struck 1967, 1972-92. The Franklin mint struck cents 1976-80 of a different design; these were sold to collectors.
