This specimen was lot 73492 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $50. The catalog description[1] noted, "GUYANA. 5 Cents, 1985. Llantrisant Mint. PCGS SPECIMEN-63 Gold Shield. Choice and alluring, this radiant specimen glistens with a great deal of brilliance. Ex: Kings Norton Mint Collection." Guyana began its numismatic life as the Dutch-held colony of Essequibo & Demerary, which later became British Guiana. Independence was obtained in 1966. Guyana gravitates toward relations with English-speaking Caribbean island nations such as Trinidad and Tobago rather than with other South American nations. This type was struck 1967, 1972-92. The Franklin mint struck five cents 1976-80 of a different design; these were sold to collectors.

Recorded mintage: 3,000,000.

Specification: nickel brass, 16.5 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-32.
