Guatemala 1894 5 pesos essai
This specimen was lot 3063 in the Eliasberg sale, where it sold, together with a ten pesos pattern, for $28,750. The catalog description[1] noted, "1894 pattern 5 pesos. Small head. PR-63 (NGC). Similar types as above. Choice deep yellow gold with satiny lustre and light reflectivity. Designs handsomely rendered and somewhat frosty. A companion piece to the previous lot, also known from a tiny mintage of just 10 pieces. This piece is in superlative condition for the issue, as many are impaired or scuffed, and likely ranks among the very finest known. A very important pattern piece. Lots 3062 and 3063 will be sold on a provisional basis, as described in Lot 3062. From Stack's sale of the Col. James W. Flanagan Collection, March 1944, Lot 376."
Recorded mintage: 10 pieces.
Specification: 8.08 grams, 22.30 mm diameter.
