Guatemala 1871-R peso

This peso with the head of Rafael Carrera was struck in Guatemala in 1866-71 in several subtypes. Earlier types, struck 1859-65 while Carrera was still alive, bear the legend "RAFAEL CARRERA P^te DE LA R^a DE GUATEMALA." This type is common in circulated condition. It was superseded by the slouched Liberty type struck 1872-79 and 1894-97.

Recorded mintage: unknown but common.

Specification: 25 g, 0.900 fine silver, .723 troy oz ASW.
