This peso with the head of Rafael Carrera was struck in Guatemala in 1866-71 in several subtypes. Earlier types, struck 1859-65 while Carrera was still alive, bear the legend "RAFAEL CARRERA PTE DE LA Ra DE GUATEMALA." This type is common in circulated condition. It was superseded by the slouched Liberty type struck 1872-79 and 1894-97.
