This specimen was lot 24449 in Heritage sale 3024 (Chicago, April 2013), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 16 Pesos 1869-R, AU58 NGC, fully lustrous and attractive with minimal contact marks. Very scarce quality for this type; equal in grade to the Eliasberg example." In 1869, gold four, five, eight, ten and twenty pesos pieces were struck in addition to the sixteen pesos shown here.
