This specimen was lot 24452 in Heritage sale 3030 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $4,112.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 4 Pesos 1861-R AU58 NGC. Types as described previously. Close to Mint State, and very attractive for this very scarce two-year type. This is also the scarcer date, missing in the Haberthuer collection, so this specimen should attract a premium. Ex. Almanzar (5/1977, lot 1558 for $710). From The Isaac Rudman Collection of Guatemala Coins." This type is listed for 1861-62 and is part of a gold series which included one, two, four, five, eight, ten, sixteen and twenty pesos.

Recorded mintage: 1,503.

Specification: 6.77 g, 0.875 fine gold, .190 troy oz AGW (same weight as the old two escudos).
