Aureo sale 232, lot 1238

The specimen shown was lot 1238 in Aureo y Calicó sale 232 (Barcelona, March 2011), where it sold for 316 euros (about US$521 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Fernando VI (1746-1759). 1756. Guatemala. J. 4 reales. Columnario. Rayitas. Rara. MBC/MBC-. (Four reales of 1756, Guatemala mint; pillar type, scratched, rare, very fine.)

This type was issued from Guatemala 1754-60 and is quite a bit scarcer than the four reales of Charles III.

Specification: 13.54 g, 0.917 fine silver, .399 troy oz ASW.
