Sincona sale 46, lot 462

The modern nation of Greece obtained independence from Ottoman Turkey in 1833. It functioned as a monarchy from that year until 1925 and again 1935-74. Since 1974, the country is the Hellenic Republic of Greece. This specimen was lot 462 in Sincona sale 46 (Zürich, May 2018), where it sold for 400 CHF (about US$480 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Griechenland, Republik, seit 1974. 5000 Drachmen 1982. XIII. Leichtathletik-Europameisterschaften. Coubertin. Polierte Platte. FDC. (republic of Greece, 1982 5000 drachmai, 13th European Games. Pierre de Coubertin. Choice Proof.)"
