Sincona sale 11, lot 1563

This specimen was lot 1563 in Sincona sale 11 (Zürich, May 2013), where it sold for 1,800 CHF (about US$2,228 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"GRIECHENLAND Konstantin II. 1964-1973. 100 Drachmen 1967. Fast FDC aus Polierter Platte. (kingdom of Greece, Constantine II, 1964-73, one hundred drachmas of 1967, proof.)"

This commemorative was issued in 1970 by the ruling dictatorship to congratulate itself on the successful prosecution of the 1967 revolution which installed it in power. The regime collapsed in 1974 and the republic restored.

Recorded mintage: 10,000.
