This specimen was part of lot 1225 in Goldberg's NY International sale 58 (New York, January 2023), which sold for $3,720. The catalog description[1] noted, "Great Britain. Elizabeth II (1952-2022). Gold Proof Sovereign Four-Coin Collection, 2001. Half-Sovereign, Sovereign, 2 Pound and 5 Pound, Total 1.94 ounces. Royal Mint. In original green case of issue, Certificate of Authenticity #0894. Lot of 4 Coins. Choice Gem Proof." This type commemorated the first transatlantic radio transmission by Marconi in 1901.
Recorded mintage: 4,558,000 plus proofs plus 11,488 in silver plus 1,658 in gold.
Specification: 11.97 g, bimetallic (copper-nickel/nickel-brass), 28.4 mm diameter, or 12 g, 0.925 fine silver, or 15.98 g, 0.917 fine gold.
