This specimen was lot 70753 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, May 2018), where it sold for $1,080. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Sovereign, 1989. PCGS PROOF-69 DEEP CAMEO. Struck to commemorate the 500th Anniversary of the Gold Sovereign. Brilliant with hard mirror fields and frosted cameo devices." This one year type replaced the regular half sovereign for the year. It was accompanied by a half sovereign (Fr-435) and gold two pounds (Fr-433).

Recorded mintage: est. 28,000 proofs.

Specification: 7.98 g, 0.917 fine gold, .2354 troy oz AGW.
