This specimen was part of lot 40174 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $1,292. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 2 Pounds, 1989. NGC PROOF-67 ULTRA CAMEO. 500th Anniversary of Sovereign. Mintage of 2,000 pieces." While this NCLT is struck to the standard of the gold two pounds of king Edward VII's reign, the modern circulating nickel-brass two pound coins of 1986-96 also happen to be 15.98 grams. It was accompanied by a half sovereign (Fr-435) and sovereign (Fr-434).

Recorded mintage: est. 17,000 per the SCWC.

Specification: 15.98 g, 0.917 fine gold.
