This specimen was part of lot 1195 in Goldberg's NY International sale 58 (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $6,000. The catalog description[1] noted, "Great Britain. Elizabeth II (1952-2022). Gold Proof Sovereign Four-Coin Collection, 1982. Half-Sovereign, Sovereign, 2 Pound and 5 Pound, Total 1.94 ounces. Royal Mint. In original green case of issue, with Certificate of Authenticity. Lot of 4 Coins. Choice Gem Proof." This type was issued 1980-83 in small numbers and sold as bullion coins. The denomination has not circulated since the time of Edward VII (and probably not much even then). Other gold two pound types have been issued after this one (KM 944, KM 947c, KM 957, KM 968b), all for sale to collectors.

Recorded mintage: 2,500 proofs.

Specification: 15.92 g, 0.917 fine gold.
