This specimen was lot 22859 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $780. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 2 Pounds, 1980. London Mint. PCGS PROOF-69 Deep Cameo Gold Shield. A stunning, exceedingly brilliant Gem, offering tremendously frosted devices and an intense cameo nature. Just five have been graded flawless in the PCGS census, making the present example as close to perfection as one can likely achieve." This type was struck 1980-83 for sale to bullion investors. The first base metal two pound coin was introduced in 1986.
