Great Britain 1970 5 pence

This five new pence, or 1/20 of a pound, was introduced in 1968 as part of the decimal reform. It was equal to the shilling in the sterling coinage. This design was used until 1982, when the word "new" was dropped. It was struck only for collector sets in 1972-74. The weight was reduced to 3.25 g in 1990.

Recorded mintage: 225,948,525 (highest mintage date).

Specification: 5.65 g, copper-nickel, 23.6 mm diameter.
