Great Britain 1964 half penny
This specimen was lot 40376 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2019), where it sold for $1,020. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 1/2 Penny, 1964. NGC PROOF-66 BN. Perfectly struck and gleaming in the fields with significant faded mint red present on the reverse and attractive blue and mauve patina contributing significantly to the overall appearance on the obverse. VERY RARE in this presentation or 'VIP' quality and rather notable as the only example to have been certified by NGC or PCGS to date." This type, struck 1954-67 and 1970, is very common except in proof. It had no place after the decimalization of 1968 and was demonetized.
