Stack's Bowers February 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 73455
SB223-73455r.jpg

This specimen was lot 73455 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $144. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Crown, 1951. London Mint. George VI. PCGS MS-64. The reflective fields enhance the dramatic rendering of Pistrucci's St. George and the Dragon, as well as the royal bust. A light scratch in the field left of the bust is the flaw which limits the MS-64 designation - the remainder of the coin being supportive of a higher grade." Altho it does not so state, this coin was struck to promote the Festival of Britain held in New York. It is listed in Davenport even tho it is not silver.

Recorded mintage: 2,004,000 + proofs.

Specification: 28.28 g, copper-nickel, 38.6 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: Dav-112A, S-4111; KM-880.
