Sincona sale 51, lot 2686

This specimen was lot 2686 in Sincona sale 51 (Zürich, October 2018), where it sold for 825 CHF (about US$995 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"George V. 1910-1936. 1/2 Sovereign 1911, London. PCGS PR65. (kingdom of Great Britain, George V, 1910-36, half sovereign of 1911, proof.)"

Proof sets were issued for the first year of reign of the new king, George V, and were extensively saved. Proof half sovereigns of this date are expensive but not rare.

Recorded mintage: 6,104,000 plus 3,764 proofs.

Specification: 3.99 g, 0.917 fine gold, 0.117 troy oz AGW.
