Great Britain 1907-B dollar
The first specimen was lot 33152 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $900. The catalog description[1] noted, "Edward VII Trade Dollar 1907-B MS63 ★ NGC, Bombay mint. Stunning rainbow toning adorns the obverse with a mesmerizing array of color. The reverse is mostly a lustrous white, save for even golden toning along the rim. Although Trade Dollars are not hard to come by in this technical grade, an example with this level of eye appeal undoubtedly does not come by often." The second specimen was lot 32904 in Heritage sale 3089 (Dallas, TX, January 2021), where it sold for $1,320. The catalog description[2] noted, "Great Britain. Edward VII Trade Dollar 1907-B MS64 NGC, Bombay mint. A generally high grade within this series, and for this date in particularly, with the certified population witnessing a dramatic drop off in gem grades or finer--only 24 ranking above MS64 out of nearly 700 seen to-date. Additionally endowed with a charming old-world tone that discloses ample die polish in the fields. From the Abbeygate Collection." This silver dollar was struck during the reign of Edward VII, king of Britain. The type was struck 1895-1935 for use in "Oriental trade," which would include India, Indochina, the East Indies and China proper. This coin could easily be filed under India as most (including this one) were struck in India, either at the Bombay or Calcutta mints. The majority were struck 1895-1904, 1907-13 and 1925-34. The coin does not bear a portrait of the sovereign nor is marked with the country of origin tho the figure of Britannia makes it clear.
Recorded mintage: 1,946,000, a pretty common date.
