Great Britain 1893 half crown
This specimen was lot 25029 in Heritage sale 3015 (Long Beach, September 2011), where it sold for $3,220. The catalog description[1] noted, "Victoria Proof Halfcrown 1893, Old or Veiled Head, PR66 Cameo NGC, from the same colorful set as the sixpence, shilling, florin, and crown in this sale, with the same wonderful deep neon-blue iridescence, but there is some disturbance in the color on the obverse and a carbon deposit on reverse, upper left shield." This bust of the queen was used from 1893 until her death in 1901. The type is fairly common but this is the only date for which proofs are listed. A half crown was two and a half shillings or one-eighth of a pound.
