This specimen was lot 33119 in Heritage sale 3073 (Chicago, April 2019), where it sold for $432. The catalog description[1] noted, "Victoria gold "St. George" Sovereign 1872 MS61 NGC. From the Lake County Collection." This bust was used on the sovereign, or one pound coin, 1838-85 with the St. George reverse introduced in 1871. However, the shield reverse was not terminated until 1874. This date is common. All issues of this date with the shield reverse bear die numbers.

Recorded mintage: 13,487,000, including the shield reverse.

Specification: 7.98 g, 0.917 fine gold.
