Great Britain 1839 half farthing

Stack's Bowers 2022 NYINC sale, lot 7302

This specimen was lot 7302 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2022), where it sold for $120. The catalog description^[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 1/2 Farthing, 1839. London Mint. Victoria. PCGS MS-64 Brown. A gorgeous little copper coin with immaculate silky luster and dark chocolate brown to electric blue patina." This half farthing was struck 1839, 1842-44, 1847, 1851-56 and most dates, including this one, are readily available in circulated condition. It was intended for the colonies, specifically Ceylon.

Recorded mintage: 1,075,200 plus proofs.
