The first specimen was lot 10428 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $1,175. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 1/2 Crown, 1820. PCGS MS-64. Lustrous with attractive highlights. Toned." The second specimen was lot 29662 in Heritage sale 3037 (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $3,760. The catalog description[2] noted, "George IV Proof 1/2 Crown 1820 PR65 PCGS, Royal mint, reeded edge. The single finest graded by PCGS by a full 3 grades, and tied with one other PR65 at NGC. Dark toning with subtle blue iridescent highlights around the devices. A true gem piece worthy of close inspection." This type was struck for George IV 1820-23. Half crowns of George III are also known for 1820.
