This specimen was lot 34828 in Heritage sale 3038 (Dallas, January 2015), where it sold for $3,055. The catalog description[1] noted, "George III gold Guinea 1783 MS62 PCGS. Rose Guinea type. Very sharply struck with inspiring golden color." This type was struck 1774-86 and is the first really common type for George III. The reform of 1817 terminated all guinea-denominated issues in favor of the sovereign. At that time the guinea, which heretofore had varied in value, was fixed at 21 shillings.
