Great Britain 1729 5 guineas
This specimen was lot 31265 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2022), where it sold for $24,000. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 5 Guineas, 1729 Year TERTIO. London Mint. George II. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, Unc Details. Despite the noted cleaning, which has given the surfaces an unnatural brightness and some hairlines, this example retains exceedingly strong details without a hint of wearing. Difficult to locate in any grade, this 5 Guineas is sure to command many bids on account of its hulking size and strong details. A chance to acquire a discounted, though likely only somewhat so, RARITY. From the Mark and Lottie Salton Collection." The 1729 five guineas comes with and without "EIC" below the bust; both are rare.
Recorded mintage: unknown but rare.
Specification: 41.75 g, 0.917 fine gold, 1.230 troy oz AGW.
