Great Britain 1729-EIC 1/2 guinea
This specimen was lot 31626 in Heritage sale 3067 (Long Beach, September 2018), where it sold for $1,440. The catalog description[1] noted, "Great Britain: George II gold "East India Company" 1/2 Guinea 1729 VF Details (Bent) NGC. A bright and attractive Half Guinea struck from gold provided by the notorious East India Company, their signature 'E.I.C.' located beneath George's bust. Bearing little visual evidence substantiating the 'bent' designation assigned by NGC, this attractive evenly-circulated piece exhibits a superb golden gleam to the fields tinged with a light red patina. A well-produced and enticing piece of British numismatic history. From the Collection of a Berkshire Gentleman." This type was struck 1729-30 from East Indian gold, hence the added letters. The regular issue (KM 565.1) was also struck in 1729. Single guineas and five guineas were also struck with the "EIC".
