This specimen was part of lot 33316 in Heritage sale 3042 (Long Beach, September 2015), which sold for $734.38. The catalog description[1] noted, "George I Four Coin Maundy Set 1727 About XF. Coins grade XF or nearly so. Evenly toned and a very scarce issue. Last year of George I's reign." Silver pennies of George I were struck for circulation and Maundy sets 1716-27 and are cheaper in high grade than the coppers. The penny was not converted to copper until 1797 and silver pennies are still struck for the Maundy sets.
