Sincona sale 79, lot 1247

This specimen was lot 1247 in Sincona sale 79 (Zürich, October 2022), where it sold for 42,000 CHF (about US$50,337 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN | Königreich, George II. 1727-1760. Guinea 1727, London. Young laureate head. Very small lettering. Rare, especially in this condition. NGC PF65. Magnificent condition." This bust was used on the guinea 1727 only. An obverse with different lettering (KM 563) was used 1727-28. Guineas were superseded by sovereigns during the reform of 1817.
