This specimen was lot 23992 in Heritage sale 3020 (Long Beach, September 2012), where it sold for $4,347.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "George I Crown 1716, Roses & Plumes reverse, AU58 NGC, a really desirable example of this very scarce first issue of the British-German king, whose portrait is here bold in all details while the reverse is marked by crisply impressed letters of the legend and a wonderfully balanced sharp strike on the shield, and the surfaces are the perfect color for this period, a smooth golden silvery gray patina that is light enough to allow the underlying luster to show through. A really fine example of this crown! From The Kim Werner Collection." This type was issued 1716-20 and 1726 and all dates are scarce. None of the British crowns of the eighteenth century are cheap.

Recorded mintage: unknown but scarce.

Specification: 30.10 g, 0.925 fine silver, .895 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: S-3639, ESC-110, KM 545.1, Dav-1345.
