Sincona sale 75, lot 181

This specimen was lot 181 in Sincona sale 75 (Zürich, May 2022), where it sold for 32,000 CHF (about US$38,842 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Grossbritannien | Königreich. Anne, 1702-1714. Guinea 1709, London. Post-Union type. Second draped bust, with elephant and castle below. NGC MS61. Überdurchschnittliche Erhaltung. (Extraordinary condition.)"

This guinea of 1708-09 comes with (shown here) or without an elephant and castle below the bust. This issue obtains a premium of about 40% over the plain type (Fr-320).

Specification: 8.35 g, 0.917 fine gold, 0.246 troy oz AGW, this specimen 8.36 g.
