Great Britain 1709 1/2 guinea
This specimen was lot 1220 in Sincona sale 79 (Zürich, October 2022), where it sold for 3,200 CHF (about US$3,835 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN | Königreich, Anne, 1702-1714. 1/2 Guinea 1709, London. Post-Union type. Draped bust. NGC AU55. Minor flan flaws." Prior to the union of England and Scotland, enacted in 1707, the guinea showed the arms of England and Scotland as separate shields on the reverse. After union, the two arms are impaled and shown on the top and bottom shield (Ireland and France make the other two shields). This subtype was struck 1707-14.
