Sincona sale 82, lot 1701

This specimen was lot 1701 in Sincona sale 82 (Zürich, May 2023), where it sold for 1,800 CHF (about US$2,409 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "William III. 1694-1702. 1/2 Guinea 1698, London. Laureate bust, elephant and castle below. Sehr selten (Very rare). NGC XF Details. Kratzer auf Vorderseite, leicht gebogen (Scratches on obverse, slightly bent." This type was struck with the elephant and castle below the bust in 1698 only and is rare. Plain half guineas were struck with this bust 1697-1701.
