Sincona sale 82, lot 1673

This specimen was lot 1673 in Sincona sale 82 (Zürich, May 2023), where it sold for 17,000 CHF (about US$22,751 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "James II. 1685-1688. Guinea 1686, London. Second laureate bust, elephant and castle below. Selten (Rare). NGC MS61. Finest certified by NGC." The first bust of James was used 1685-86, the second bust was used 1686-88. Both come with or without the elephant and castle below the truncation, making for four varieties for 1686.
