Sincona sale 79, lot 1178

This specimen was lot 1178 in Sincona sale 79 (Zürich, October 2022), where it sold for 4,000 CHF (about US$4,794 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN | Königreich, James II. 1685-1688. Guinea 1686, London. Second laureate bust. NGC UNC Details. Minor scratches on obverse." The first bust was used 1685-86, the second bust was used 1686-88. Both come with or without the elephant and castle below the truncation, making for four varieties for 1686.
