Great Britain 1660 half crown
This specimen was lot 33100 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $840. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Commonwealth. 1/2 Crown, 1660. London Mint; mm: Anchor. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, EF Details. Obverse: St. George's shield within wreath composed of laurel branch and palm frond; Reverse: Two shield bearing St. George's cross (England) and harp (Ireland); II VI (mark of value) above. The final year of this RARE issue, and the first we can recall having offered to date. Fairly well-detailed and desirable as such despite the noted cleaning. From the Richard August Collection." This type was struck 1658-60 after Oliver Cromwell's death as the Protectorate fell apart. In 1660, Charles II was restored to the throne and the commonwealth coinage ended.
