This specimen was lot 34749 in Heritage sale 3094 (Chicago, August 2021), where it sold for $4,560. The catalog description[1] noted, "Great Britain: Commonwealth Crown 1652/1 XF40 NGC, Sun mm. A truly wonderful specimen of this iconic British issue and largest denomination of the series, boasting an attractive, uniformly pewter patination and honest, moderate wear to the raised designs. Erroneously attributed as Bull-4, ESC-4 on the label, we note the distinctly different "2" to the date, indicating this piece as the rarer overdate variety, of which we have only offered once before, an AU55 in 2016, hammering at $4,400. From the Long Island Collection." Crowns were struck 1649-57 in silver and gold. They were the first English coins to bear English legends.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 30.10 g, 0.925 fine silver, this specimen 43.5 mm diameter, 29.44 g.

Catalog reference: Dav-3772, KM 392, S-3214, ESC-5 (R3), N-2721.
