This specimen was lot 72317 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2023), where it sold for $312. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 1/2 Groat (2 Pence), ND (1616-17). London Mint; mm: book. James I. NGC EF-45. Variety with smaller crown. Ample luster still remains in the recesses, while slight handling does little to distract from the design. Overall pleasing with a blend of dove and pewter gray patina. Decent striking detail in the centers only enhances eye appeal." This type was struck 1604-19 with numerous mintmarks. The book mintmark shown here was used only in 1616-17.
