Sincona sale 75, lot 86

This specimen was lot 86 in Sincona sale 75 (Zürich, May 2022), where it sold for 5,250 CHF (about US$6,373 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Grossbritannien | Königreich. James I. 1603-1625. Thistle Crown n. d. (1609-1610), Tower Mint. Second coinage. Mintmark rose. NGC MS62. Überdurchschnittliche Erhaltung. (Extraordinary condition.)" While previous gold crowns had passed for five shillings, the thistle crown was worth only four. This denomination is unique to this reign.
