Sincona sale 75, lot 85

This specimen was lot 85 in Sincona sale 75 (Zürich, May 2022), where it sold for 1,900 CHF (about US$2,306 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Grossbritannien | Königreich. James I. 1603-1625. Gold Britain crown n. d. (1609-1610), Tower Mint. Second coinage. Third bust. Mintmark key. NGC AU55." This gold crown was worth five shillings. The thistle crown, struck at the same time, was four shillings. The last gold crown was struck after the Restoration, whereupon it was superseded by silver crowns struck on the screw press.
