Gibraltar 1967 crown
This specimen was lot 52311 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $870. The catalog description[1] noted, "GIBRALTAR. Crown, 1967. Elizabeth II. PCGS PROOF-67 Deep Cameo. KM-4A. Mintage: 50. Though the regular proof issue is not hard to obtain, the special frosted proof version offered here is undoubtedly VERY RARE, with a paltry mintage figure of just 50 specimens. A great opportunity for the collector of difficult world crowns of the 20th century." This type was struck for circulation 1967-70 before inflation made it useless. The silver version is an early NCLT, before the colony fell into the clutches of the Pobjoy Mint.
Recorded mintage: 125,000 in copper-nickel plus 10,000 proofs plus 50 frosted proofs.
Specification: KM 4: copper-nickel, 38.5 mm diameter; KM 4a: 28.28 g, 0.500 fine silver.
Catalog reference: KM 4 (copper-nickel), KM 4a (silver).
