This specimen was lot 24816 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it sold for $1,527.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Victoria Proof 2 Quarts 1842/1, PR65 RB NGC, the mirrored surfaces showing some abrasions. Rare." This coin was part of a brief issue of circulating copper coinage comprising half, one and two quarts. Some proofs were struck for collectors 1860-61 and the coinage ceased until the colony fell into the clutches of the Popjoy mint in recent times.
