Künker sale 386, lot 6289

This specimen was lot 6289 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €600 (about US$775 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND, 10 Pfennig 1949, J. RR Nur 250 Exemplare geprägt. Polierte Platte. Exemplar der Sammlung Coenen. Exemplar der Auktion Dr. Busso Peus Nachf. 427, Frankfurt/Main 2020, Nr. 2200. (Federal Republic of Germany, ten pfennig of 1949. Very rare, only 250 pieces struck. Proof.)"

This type was struck 1949 only but the immense quantity made means it is common, tho the proofs are rare. Large and small J varieties exist.

Recorded mintage: 154,095,000 plus 250 proofs.

Specification: 4 g, brass plated steel, 21.5 mm diameter.
