This specimen was lot 34241 in Heritage sale 3076 (Long Beach, CA, September 2019), where it sold for $1,800. The catalog description[1] noted, "Italy: Genoa. Francesco I Sf[or]za of Milan gold Ducato ND (1464-1466) AU Details (Reverse Scratched) NGC. (annulet) F: S: DUX: mЄDIOLAnI: D: IAn (annulet), castle, surmounted by basilisk, within tressure of arches, annulets in spandrels / +: COnRADUX: RЄX: ROmAnOR: A:, cross potent within tressure of arches, annulets in spandrels. A scarce type beloved for its iconic Renaissance imagery, the whole of piece perfectly centered and free of clipping. The noted scratches are quite light, and virtually blend in amongst scattered die polish and flow lines. From the Allen Moretti Swiss Collection." Five different dukes of Milan occupied Genoa long enough to issue gold coins: Filippo Maria (1421-25), Francesco (1464-66, shown here), Galeazzo Maria (1466-76), Gian Galeazzo (1489-94) and Ludovico Maria (1494-99).
