This specimen was lot 31861 in Heritage sale 3076 (Long Beach, CA, September 2019), where it sold for $1,680. The catalog description[1] noted, "Italy. Genoa. Giorgio Adorno gold Genovino (Ducat) ND (1413-1415) MS63 NGC . +G: A: DV: IANVЄNSIVM: XVII • I, castle within ornamented tressure, stars in spandrels / +CONRADV': RЄX: ROMANORV: I •, cross potent within ornamented tressure, stars in spandrels. A rare and iconic hammered gold type from Genoa, struck on a slightly undersized flan, though preserving satiny originality to the fields and containing no obtrusive marks. From the Allen Moretti Swiss Collection." Doge XVII was Barnaba Di Guano, who ruled 1415 only. Friedberg lists this issue as rare.
